Cosmos Laundromat

timthumbWe’ve just completed the first “weekly” – a short presentation of everyone here about their past week’s work. You can find the full live stream linked here. Was so great to see the team together for a first presentation!

Today we’ve released the (tentative) film title: Cosmos Laundromat. How precisely the laundromat – and laundromanager – will play a role in the film is awesome and funny! Just stay tuned to learn more about it later.

I will need some time to collect the material for a nicer ‘weekly’ post and to update the gallery here. Will do tomorrow. We also will work hard on setting up the system on blender cloud, which we’ll use to store our progress, and which the subscribers then can watch updated daily. Feedback and commenting systems will take a bit to add as well. Give us a break – we have a whole new shop system to be fixed and supported as well. Poor Francesco has 100 support mails waiting still!

Thanks for the video. I am very relieved to see the main character is redesigned. It is much more likeable now. A good team spirit already i think. Keep it going. :)

  2. Keavon says:

Great to hear this progress and finally know the film name! But wouldn’t the name “Cosmic Laundromat” instead of “Cosmos Laundromat” flow a little better?

    • S J Bennett says:

Definitely agree with Keavon’s suggestion as a native English speaker: “Cosmos Laundromat” implies the name of the laundromat is “Cosmos”. The message in the title is lessened by the awkwardness of how the words sound together.

“Cosmic Laundromat” flows more naturally in terms of grammar, so it’s easier to set up the title’s wonderfully absurd proposition (“the entire cosmos has a laundromat?!”) – and “The Cosmic Laundromat” feels even more solid.

Well you’re right, the name of the laundromat is “cosmos” :) Cosmic means is will take place in space to us, but it’s not… But I do understand it flows more naturally. Anyway it’s the name of a company : Cosmos Laundromat (check out “Cosmo’s laundromat” in Manhattan ;) )

        • S J Bennett says:

Well if there’s a purpose to it, consider my objection retracted forthwith. :)

I suppose i just like the idea of a laundromat in space. Like a restaurant at the end of the universe. Or a French patisserie slightly to the left of eternity. Mundane things in unlikely places.

This movie’s going to be a total trip.

  3. So now we know why one of the promo videos was shot in a laundromat! Looks cool! I look forward to seeing what pops up on the Blender Cloud and how everything morphs throughout the project.

Gooseberry Teams are the open source role models for and from The Earth. Keep rolling!

  5. Martin says:

“I have detected,” he said, “disturbances in the wash.”
    “The wash?” said Arthur.
    “The space-time wash,” said Ford.
Arthur nodded, and then cleared his throat.
“Are we talking about,” he asked cautiously, “some sort of Vogon laundromat, or what are we talking about?”
“Eddies,” said Ford, “in the space-time continuum.”
“Ah,” nodded Arthur, “is he? Is he?” He pushed his hands into the pocket of his dressing gown and looked knowledgeably into the distance.
    “What?” said Ford.
“Er, who,” said Arthur, “is Eddy, then, exactly?”
    Ford looked angrily at him.
    “Will you listen?” he snapped.
“I have been listening,” said Arthur, “but I’m not sure it’s helped.”
